John Sinnos

After more than 9 years service to the Club, John Sinnos has stepped down as club chairman. It is fair to say that John’s leadership of the club over nearly a decade has been inspirational and (having consulted many members) the committee has decided that the most appropriate way to recognise John’s contribution to Woldingham tennis club is to:
  1. Hold a thank you BBQ at the club from 6.30 to 10.30pm on Wednesday 15thAugust 2018.The courts will be open for mix in tennis (so please come prepared) and a simple BBQ dinner will be cooked by Malcolm and Steve. Please come along, bring a bottle (or two) and help us thank John for all his hard work. To ensure we have enough food please email  info@woldinghamtennisclub.co.uk to confirm you can attend;
  2. award John a 5 year presidency of the Club. This has been a role held for many years by Norman Pocock who has kindly agreed to pass the baton to John;
  3. starting in 2019 to hold an annual “Sinnos Cup“ tennis challenge. Our head coach Patrick is currently working on the format to be adopted and more news will follow. This is inspired by John being such a keen advocate of club tennis.

As announced at the recent club AGM the committee are now putting into place a development programme designed to enhance all elements of membership at Woldingham tennis club. The first stage of this process will be the re-surfacing of courts 1 to 3 with an artificial clay surface. Those of you who may have played on that surface will know that it will promote more rallies, a slightly slower speed of bounce, put less strain on joints and muscles and, most importantly, will be playable in almost all weather conditions. After a tendering process we have appointed Trevor May and Co to complete this work which will commence (weather permitting) on Monday 20thAugust and will take 2 weeks to complete. For that reason those 3 courts will be out of action and tennis will be restricted to courts 4,5 and 6. To avoid our younger players having to walk back to our clubhouse  the Craigmyle Glebe have kindly agreed that we can use the facilities at the cricket pavilion during this time. Our clubhouse will remain open throughout the resurfacing.

Finally, the introduction of GDPR has seen a change in the way we hold and use data. In response to a number of requests we have decided to publish a monthly news letter which will be emailed to all members and to those non members who elect to subscribe. Please visit our website www.woldinghamtennisclub.co.uk and navigate to “About Us” and then "Newsletters Mailing List".  We are happy to accept contributions from all members for the newsletter itself.
